The growing tension between AI-driven data center development and power availability constraints is reshaping the market, according to a survey published by Vinson & Elkins.
The survey also found 96% of infrastructure developers preview power constraints to pivot data center development to new locations, while more than 80% are adopting hybrid and off-grid energy solutions like microgrids and on-site generation, the firm stated.

“The winners will be those who can anticipate where power, capital and technology intersect—and move ahead of those constraints, not react to them,” said Kaam Sahely, Vinson & Elkins partner who has represented numerous power companies, data center developers and investors in infrastructure projects locally and abroad.
The survey results can be found here.
